The Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) president, Hon. James Jimmy Akena Obote has said the four terms in parliament is enough and resounded interest in the presidency come 2026. He made this declaration while addressing mourners at the official sendoff of Busia District UPC Chairman Okello Watta Ignatius in Mundanya village,  Dabani sub-county Busia district on Saturday.

The UPC leader stated that his four terms in parliament have equipped him with valuable lessons in politics, campaigning, and defending votes.

“Four terms in parliament is enough. I have learnt the tricks of politics, I have learnt how to campaign and I have learnt the tricks on how to defend your vote because in politics winning is not enough. You must make sure you defend your vote and you are declared a winner in that election,” Akena said.

“I want to make it abundantly clear in 2026, I am also a contestant. I am not contesting for parliament, I am contesting for president of Uganda.”

Akena criticized the current government for failing to serve the interests of Ugandan citizens, particularly in the education sector. He pledged to prioritize the welfare of citizens and improve the quality of education and social services delivery in the country, following in the footsteps of his late father, former President Dr. Apollo Milton Obote Nyamurunga.

“I am here to work for the people, and that will be my message as I continue on this journey,” Akena said, emphasizing his commitment to serving the citizens of Uganda.
