In a remarkable display of perseverance and determination, National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu has graduated with a Bachelor of Laws degree from Cavendish University, overcoming challenges and controversy surrounding his eligibility.
The 13th graduation ceremony, held at Hotel Speke Convention Centre Munyonyo, saw Kyagulanyi among 650 students conferred degrees in various fields. Dignitaries in attendance included Hon. Chris Baryomunsi, Minister of ICT and National Guidance, and H.E. Jonathan Goodluck, former head of state of the Republic of Nigeria.
Kyagulanyi’s LLB journey, which began in August 2016, was marred by controversy when a letter questioned his eligibility to graduate. However, following an investigation by the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE), Kyagulanyi was cleared to receive his degree.
In a WhatsApp message, Kyagulanyi expressed gratitude to supporters, including his wife, Barbie Kyagulanyi, and acknowledged criticism, stating, “To those who always mocked my academic qualifications, you pushed me to pursue this course. Thank you, and I hope you will now get something better to talk about.”
Kyagulanyi’s achievement demonstrates his commitment to excellence and his resolve to use his knowledge to fight against injustices and seek freedom for all. The graduation ceremony’s theme, “Consolidating Excellence, Innovation, and Transformation,” reflects Cavendish University’s dedication to fostering academic excellence and nurturing future leaders.
