KANUNGU,
The police in Kanungu are investigating the suspected suicide case involving a 37-year-old man. The victim, identified as Bernard Turyamureba, is a resident of Bukora Cell, Northern Ward, Kanungu Town Council.
It is alleged that on Friday, September 20, 2024, at around 9:00 am,Turyamureba began speaking incoherently, which his family attributed to his long-standing battle with mental illness. He was served food by his biological parents at his residence, and when they returned to collect the plates after a rain shower, they discovered him groaning in a pool of blood with a deep cut wound on his neck. Parents informed the neighbors who promptly informed the police.
The Kigezi region police spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate says that police investigations showed that the victim has been a known mental illness patient which they suspect resulted into the victim’s death.
“Family members had previously separated from him due to his condition, leaving his 12-year-old child in his father’s care,” said ASP Maate.
Maate said police recovered a panga with blood stains which the victim allegedly used.
“A panga with suspected blood stains was recovered at the scene,” Maate explained.
Body was examined at Kanungu Health Center IV and later released to relatives for decent burial
Police said the incident is a suspected suicide case, but the exact circumstances surrounding Turyamureba’s death remain unclear.
