The Chief Magistrates Court in Mbarara has granted bail to Doreen Atwongyire, a merciless lecturer at Bishop Stuart University who was on Thursday remanded to Kyamugorani government prison on charges of causing grievous harm to her maid.
It is alleged that on September 25, the accused while at her home in Katete, Mbarara City poured boiling water on Anitah Kansiime (maid) who she accused of delaying to bathe her children. She was sent to Kyamugorani prison on remand until yesterday (October 15) when she returned to court for further proceedings. She through her lawyers applied for bail and the hearing was set today, October 16.
The Chief Magistrate Court presided over by Andrew Kabombo on Wednesday, granted Atwongyire a cash bail of UGX 1.5 million, whereas three of her sureties were given a non-cash bail of UGX 10 million each.
It is further reported that the prosecution side is still investigating the matter.
