The Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) has detained three former officials of the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) following their appearance at the CID headquarters today, October 16, 2024.
They are Dorothy Kisaka, the former Executive Director, David Luyimbazi, the former Deputy Executive Director, and Dr. Daniel Okello, the former Director of Public Health and Environment.
The trio were summoned earlier this week in relation to an ongoing investigation into their involvement in the disastrous Kiteezi landfill collapse.
The CID’s summons, initially issued on Monday, October 14, 2024, had requested the former KCCA officials to report to the headquarters for questioning.
Upon their appearance today, they engaged with the investigative team as part of a prosecution-led inquiry into allegations tied to their tenure in office.
Kisaka was transferred to Kira Division police while Eng. Luyimbazi and Dr. Daniel Okello were whisked to Nateete police station.
The Uganda Police Spokesperson, ACP Micheal Kituuma Rusoke said on Wednesday evening that the trio was detained and will be arraigned before the courts of law at a date he did not disclose.
The police mouthpiece did not disclose specific charges against the former KCCA officials but it is believed to relate to issues that arose during their time in leadership at KCCA including negligence, and mismanagement of Kiteezi landfill which resulted into deaths of 35 people and damaging of properties.
