In a bold political move, Peter Musinguzi, 25, has announced his intention to run for the Sheema Municipality Member of Parliament (MP) seat in the 2026 elections .
This announcement sets him up to compete against incumbent Hon. Kateshumbwa Dickson, a former Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) commissioner, as well as former Science and Technology Minister Dr. Elioda Tumwesigye, among other aspirants.
Peter Musinguzi hails from Rwengando Kiziiba Parish, Kagango in Sheema Municipality. Born to the late Mr. Musinguzi Julius, he grew up in Sheema District and has since developed a reputable academic and professional background.
Musinguzi’s educational journey began at Rwengando Primary School. He then attended Bushenyi Preparatory School in Kabwohe, where he completed his Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) in 2012. Continuing his education at Sacred Heart Mushanga Secondary School, Sheema, he earned his O-Level certificate in 2016. He later attended Ntare School in Mbarara, obtaining his A-Level certificate in 2018.
In 2023, Musinguzi graduated from Nkumba University with a Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering and Mineral Geoscience. Currently, he is a specialist in oil and gas, working with Total Energies in Buliisa, Hoima, and with the Geological Survey ETx. under Congo Gold Mines.
Leadership Journey and Political Ambitions
Musinguzi has showcased a strong leadership trajectory throughout his educational career. In 2021/2022, he served as the Guild Presidential Advisor at Nkumba University. During the COVID-19 lockdown, Musinguzi led initiatives to support students affected by the restrictions, notably providing food relief to those stranded in hostels—a gesture that earned him significant recognition.
Following this, he was elected as President for all students from Sheema District enrolled in various universities across Uganda and beyond. His leadership roles have underscored his dedication to community and youth support, a quality he hopes to bring to his political campaign.
Musinguzi’s candidacy reflects a commitment to representing Sheema Municipality’s interests, where he aims to advocate for development projects and youth empowerment.
A Growing Field of Aspirants
The Sheema Municipality MP race has attracted several high-profile candidates. Alongside Musinguzi, incumbent Hon. Kateshumbwa and former Science and Technology Minister Dr. Tumwesigye are also eyeing this seat. The competition is expected to be fierce, as each candidate brings unique qualifications and visions for Sheema Municipality’s future.
In the coming months, Musinguzi is expected to outline his campaign agenda and plans for Sheema Municipality. His supporters are optimistic about his fresh perspective and commitment to addressing the needs of his community, positioning him as a formidable contender in the upcoming elections.
