Politicians and individuals aspiring to vy for political positions have been barred from taking part in church leadership in Mbarara Archdiocese.
This was revealed by the diocesan lay apostolate office’s Executive Secretary, Godianis Nkabakyenga in document for electoral roadmap for parish council election in all parishes of Mbarara Archdiocese.
According to Nkabakyenga, the directive is per the commitment of Mushanga parish which bars politicians from filling leadership positions on the parish council.
“Take note of the Mushanga commitment that any person aspiring for political leadership is not eligible to be elected on the Parish Council Executive,” read Nkabakyenga’s letter in parts.
The letter which was copied to Archbishop Lambert Bainomugisha, Diocesan Vicar General and the Episcopal Vicar for the Laity, Parish Priests and Chairpersons have been urged to use the election day to sensitize christians on new parish council constitutions and developments in their parishes.
According to the released program, elections for parish council executive will begin on 15th January, 2025 at Birunduma parish and close on 29th May, 2025 at Akashanda parish.
