The police in Kisoro are holding four suspects in the alleged strangulation of a 32-year-old market tax collector.
Police have withheld the identities of the suspects for fear of compromising ongoing investigations. They are accused of strangling to death Alosious Tukamuhebwa, a market tax collector and resident of Kashija village/ward Rubuguri town council in Kisoro district.
According to the deceased wife, Gloria Tushemereirwe, her left his home for Rukungiri market to collect market tax dues on Friday (November 29) but did not return home. He was allegedly found murdered in Rubuguri township the following morning on November 30.
On Saturday morning at around 0700 hours, she got information that her husband was found naked dead in Rubuguri town, when she reached there, she identified it was her husband and reported the matter to police.
The Kigezi region police spokesperson ASP Elly Maate said police visited the scene and introduced a sniffer dog leading to some arrests.
“The scene was visited and documented, the police sniffer dog was introduced to the scene of crime where it picked the sent upon which four suspects were arrested to assist in police investigations,” Maate explained.
The body was conveyed to Rubuguri health center 1V for postmortem later handed over to the relatives for decent burial. Maate appeals to anyone with information that can help identify the perpetrators to come forward and share it with police so that they are apprehended and held accountable.
