Thirty one (31) babies were born on Christmas Day (December 25) at Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital in Mbarara City, Southwest Uganda, hospital management reported.
The newly born babies included 15 girls and 16 boys. Halson Kagure, the hospital public relations officer says that 10 of the mothers delivered through ceasarean section while the rest were normal deliveries.
“The mothers who delivered via C-section are receiving postnatal care,” said Kagure.
Dr. Deus Twesigye, Acting hospital director and senior consultant general surgeon said that no deaths were registered, and attributed this success to the hospital’s commitment to reduce maternal and newborn mortality.
“All mothers are in good shape, and those who underwent surgery are responding well to postoperative care,” Dr. Twesigye said.
He urged expectant mothers to always visit health facilities for antenatal care during pregnancy stating that they play a significant role in combating maternal and infant mortality rates. Expectant fathers were also urged to support their women during labor, making this life-changing experience more joyful.
