Traffic has been paralyzed long Gulu-Kamdini Highway following a fatal crash on Wednesday early morning.
The incident occurred at Ngato Swamp along the Gulu-Kamudini Highway in Oyam district.
SP Kananura Michael, spokesperson for the Directorate of traffic and road safety says the accident was caused by a crash between a stationary trailer and another trailer.
“A trailer traveling towards Gulu developed mechanical issues and while its driver was fixing it, another trailer rammed into it,” he said.
The driver of a stationary trailer died on the spot while the driver of another trailer sustained injuries.
SP Kananura added that the incident blocked the road and urged motorists to use alternative routes as per traffic guidelines.
“This incident has completely blocked the road. Efforts are underway to tow the vehicles. Motorists on that route are advised to use the alternative routes to avoid delays,”
• Gulu-bound motorists: Divert via Minakulu town council, connect to Oyam-Lira road-Kamudini.
• Kampala-bound motorists: Divert at Kamudini-Atapara-Oyam road-Minakulu-Gulu Road.
• Lira-bound motorists: Connect to Aboke-Iceme Road in Oyam-Bobi-Gulu Road-Gulu.
• Kampala-bound heavily loaded trucks: Divert from Kamudini-Aboke-Iceme-Bobi-Gulu Highway.
• Gulu-bound heavily loaded trucks: Divert from Bobi & follow the same route up to Kamudini.
Traffic urged motorists and other road users to exercise patience, discipline and adhere to directives from officers on the ground.
