KITAGWENDA
Kitagwenda District have arrested Amarakutunga Levi, a musician and male councillor representing persons with disabilities, over the alleged murder of a four-year-old child in a suspected case of ritual sacrifice.
The young victim, a resident of Nyaruhanda Village, was reported missing on March 16, 2025, after being sent to a neighbor’s house. The child’s lifeless body was discovered the next morning in a bush, sending shockwaves through the community.
According to police reports, a K-9 unit was deployed, and the trained dogs tracked a scent that led investigators to Levi’s home, situated about 300 meters from the crime scene. Further searches around the area uncovered a suspected panga (machete) with bloodstains, found 200 meters from where the child’s body was dumped.
A subsequent search at the suspect’s residence revealed incriminating evidence, including a bucket filled with water containing bloodstained clothes and blood stains on the wall of one of the rooms.
The angry mob later transferred anger to the suspect’s banana plantation and destroyed it, and his cows were injured.
Police have detained Amarakutunga Levi as investigations continue. Authorities have urged residents to remain calm and allow the law to take its course.
