Police have refuted social media reports that former Kampala North Operations Commander, Retired Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Sam Omara is dead.
ACP Omara (Rtd) is critically ill and receiving treatment for kidney failure and prostate cancer, sources within the Uganda Police Force have confirmed.

Omara, known for his role in cracking down on the 2011 “Walk-to-Work” protests led by Rtd. Col. Dr. Kizza Besigye, is currently admitted to the private wing of Mulago National Referral Hospital in Kampala.
Anonymous police sources said Omara remains alive but in a critical condition, dismissing widespread social media reports claiming he had died.
Omara, who served as the North Kampala police operations commander during the protests, gained notoriety for his aggressive tactics against opposition figures. After retiring from the police, he took up the position of Deputy CEO at Arrow Security Services, a private firm owned by Capt. Mike Mukula.
In 2024, the Uganda Police Force Director of Health Services, AIGP Dr. Moses Byaruhanga, visited Omara and pledged that police would cover his medical expenses.
Police have reiterated that Omara is alive and continue to monitor his condition closely.
