KAMPALA
The Ministry of Health has dismissed recent media reports suggesting a resurgence of COVID-19 cases in the country, calling them misleading and based on old video clips recirculated by individuals with ill intent.
In a press release issued on Wednesday, the Ministry clarified that Uganda is not experiencing a new outbreak of COVID-19 and that the national situation remains stable and under control. This comes three years after the major outbreak of the pandemic that affected the country and the world at large.
“The Ministry reassures the public that there is no resurgence of COVID-19 in Uganda,” the statement read in part. “The circulating messages are old clips being re-shared by unscrupulous individuals to mislead the public,” said Dr. Charles Olaro, Director General Health Services at MoH.
The Health Ministry noted that it continues to closely monitor global developments, including reports of new strains of the virus in other countries. It emphasized that Uganda is maintaining a strong surveillance and response system that has been built over the years and remains capable of detecting and addressing potential public health threats.
“Uganda continues to benefit from a strong surveillance and response system, which remains fully active and capable,” the Ministry added.
Citizens have been urged to seek medical attention at the nearest health facility if they experience flu-like symptoms that are consistent with COVID-19. The Ministry advised continued adherence to good hygiene practices such as hand-washing with soap and clean water or using an alcohol-based sanitizer.
The statement further encouraged the public to rely on official sources for accurate information regarding public health matters and avoid being misled by false information circulating on social media.
Dr. Olaro, reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to safeguarding the health and well-being of all Ugandans.
