At least five people have been confirmed dead following a fatal road accident that involved Fins Medical University – Fort Portal team along Fort Portal – Bunyangabu highway.
The fatal crash occurred at Kibeede, in Mugusu Sub-county, Kabarole District, on Saturday evening, when the university van collided with another car, as the team returned from a medical outreach camp.

Five people including three and two students died on the spot, and several others sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment at various hospitals in Fort Portal.
“We regret to inform the Fins Medical University Community and the general public that our vehicle got involved in a fatal accident claiming lives of five people who were coming from a medical camp,” Ruhweza Patrick, the University Secretary said.
Ruhweza described the incident as a devastating loss, stating that authorities are working closely with medical teams to ensure that the casualties receive adequate care, while also liaising with the families of both the deceased and the injured.
The exact cause of the accident remains unclear, though police have launched investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
The university is expected to release further details of the incident after completing a joint assessment with the Uganda Police.
