BUSHENYI
Revellers in Greater Bushenyi have been urged to remain alert and celebrate responsibly as Ugandans mark Valentine’s Day today.
In a statement issued Saturday, the Uganda Police Force in the Greater Bushenyi Region called on the public to prioritise safety during the celebrations, warning against reckless behaviour that could turn joyous moments into tragedy.
“As you mark this special occasion, your safety and security remain our highest priority. We urge everyone to celebrate responsibly and remain vigilant, do not allow a joyful moment to turn into regret,” the statement reads.
The Regional Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tayebwa Apollo, said officers have been strategically deployed across the region to maintain law and order during the festivities.
Police advised motorists to strictly observe traffic regulations and avoid reckless driving, noting that road crashes often increase during public celebrations. Revellers were also cautioned to be mindful of their personal safety, especially in crowded places, and to keep a close watch on their drinks and personal belongings.
The force further encouraged the public to look out for friends, partners and loved ones, and to promptly report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station or through established emergency lines.
“If you see something, say something. Together, we can keep the love alive and the peace intact,” SP Tayebwa said.
In Uganda, Valentine’s Day is widely observed across the country with social gatherings, outings and entertainment events.
