A property dispute has erupted between Kibwetere’s daughter Ahimbisibwe and her husband Ashaba who is the proprietor of Yokon river trading company and SMS Construction limited Kampala after the former accused the latter of fraudulently transferring her shares of 20% in SMS construction company limited into his name.
According to the New vision,a multimedia company in uganda,Mary Ahimbisibwe kibwetere,a daughter to kibwetere a cult leader in kanungu district and her husband Micheal Aine Ashaba,a businessman are currently in a property battle that seems to be on the verge of ending their business relationship after Aine fraudulently transferred Ahimbisibwe’s shares held in SMS construction company limited into his name.
The property dispute between Kibwetere’s daughter is a nostalgic event to many ugandans most especially to those from kanungu who remember what her father kibwetere did to their people in early 2000.
Joseph kibwetere reportedly born in1932 in Kishariro,Ntungamo district was a leader of a Movement for the restoration of the ten commandments of God,a cult that later lead to the death of over 1,000 people who were found dead from a fire believed to have been orchestrated by the cult leaders.
It is believed that 778 members died in the fire. However, six mass graves were found on the cult land measuring up to 48 hectares where more than 280 bodies were found and recovered from these graves, bringing the total death toll to over 1000.
It is reported that Believers were encouraged to pay their debts, make peace with other people and sell off their property in preparation for the death claiming that the world would end on December 31,1999, a prophecy that did not come to pass bringing mistrust among the believers.
Different sources have different explanations about the whereabouts of kibwetere with some saying that he died in the group’s mass murder.
According to the uganda police,it was announced in 2014 that there were reports that kibwetere was hiding in Malawi. However, scholars like Richard Vokes wrote in his 2009 book titled (Ghosts of kanungu) that “It is impossible to know whether ceredonia,(one of the cult leaders) and other leaders did also die in the fire ,or whether she,and they, simply motivated others to engage in mass suicide before escaping themselves”.He argued most witness testimony that indicated she may still be alive was “entirely unreliable”after having interviewed them himself.
As kibwetere’s daughter fights for her business relationship with her husband,it remains to be seen how and whether their misunderstandings will be resolved amicably or will go to the next level.
