KAMPALA:
A private security guard has been arrested over alleged theft of Shs29 million and 900 grams of gold.
The suspect is Justine Akena, a private guard attached to Magnum security company. The Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson, ASP Luke Owoyesigyire said the stolen gold is valued at 500 Million.
”We wish to confirm the arrest of Akena Justine, a private security guard attached to Magnum Security Company, in connection with a theft that occurred on 10th April 2026″, Owoyesigyire’s statement reads.
The theft occured while the suspect was deployed to guard the premises of Goldex Uganda Limited, located along Mawanda Road in Kamwokya Kampala.
It’s further alleged that Akena picked the reported amount of money and Gold from a motor vehicle belonging to one katuramu Maggie.
He reportedly locked up the premises and went into hiding until 15th April 2026 at about 2230hours when he was successfully arrested from Gaspa village in Bweyale Town council where he had opened up a retail shop using part of the money.
Upon interrogation,Akena admitted to committing the offence. He is currently in custody at Mawanda Road police station as investigations and preparations for prosecution continue .
