The Katikiro of Buganda Owek. Charles Peter Mayiga has asked the public to dispel rumors that the Kabaka Ronald Muwenda was poisoned.
Katikiro Mayiga made the remarks during a press brief on Friday afternoon at Bulange Mengo, where he disclosed that the Kabaka had suffered an allergic reaction on his 66th birthday that led him to have breathing complications.
He explained that the allergic reaction was made worse when he put on a face shield.
“On Tuesday April 13, 2021, we celebrated the 66th birthday of our Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II and thanked God for the long life. Those who followed the events on TV and social media noticed that Kabaka’s disposition was different from that that his subjects are used to,” Katikiro Mayiga said. “We all face ailments from time to time. In the Kabaka’s case, the challenges are related to allergies that cause him breathing difficulties, especially when he wears a mask or face shield.”
He further distanced himself from the rumors circulating that the Kabaka was poisoned stressing that they are false, unfounded, and should be treated with total disregard.
‘‘I would like to urge you to disregard the rumours on social media that the Kabaka had been poisoned. They are totally wrong, baseless and unfounded. They cause unnecessary anxiety,” he said.

The Katikkiro says the Kabaka is receiving the best treatment from health experts around him.
The Kabaka has been spotted in the public and at his kingdom looking slightly stronger since Tuesday this week.
On Thursday,Kabaka stired excitement when he was spotted shopping at Capital Shoppers supermarket in Ntinda.
