The Police in Rubanda District have commenced on investigations underwhich a 45-year-old man set ablaze his house killing his wife and three children.
The suspect who is on a run has been identified by firstname as Armstrong, a resident of Habutobere village, Muko Sub County in Rubanda District. Saturday night at around 10.30PM allegedly set his house on fire that killed his wife and three children after developing a family misunderstanding.
Ellyn Maate, the Kigezi regional police spokesperson has identified the deceased as Lovinah Muheki, 43, Edwin Tumworobere, 17, Westlife Akampumuriza,15, and Mariakura Ekinamushabire, 5.
According to Maate, the suspects has had longstanding wrangled with his family something that prompted him to marry a second wife.
“It’s alleged that they had family wrangles for a long time that caused the man to marry a second wife. On a fateful day, the man was sighted at a fuel station buying petrol. When he reached home, he locked them inside the house and equally locked that of their immediate neighbour so that he doesn’t come out to help them and then set ablaze his house,” Maate said.
He said that the police responded in time and cordoned off the crime scene and put off the fire although the victims were already dead.
“We shall do all it takes to ensure that the culprit is arrested and prosecuted accordingly. I appeal to the members of the public to help the police in hunting for the suspected criminal,” Mr Maate said.
Herbert Byaruhanga, former LCIII chairman for Muko Sub County said that in 2017 he reconciled the same couple after they had developed a domestic misunderstanding and thought everything was okay.
“Whereas we have been recording cases of domestic violence in Muko Sub County, we have never seen one of this kind. It is so sad,” he said
