KAMPALA:
On Thursday afternoon, internet was washed with reports on the denial of US entry to National Unity Platform President Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu in Doha Qatar.
No sooner had the reports released than the pro government bloggers alleged that the former presidential candidate was arrested in Doha Qatar in connection with marijuana deals.
Bobi wine was expected in the US to attend Diaspora events including the Uganda Action Day and our Convention, all scheduled this weekend.
Their false accusations were however diluted after Bobi Wine clarified on his social media platforms on his denial to enter to the US.
In a statement on his Facebook account, Bobi Wine revealed that he has been in South Africa which is one of the countries considered as dangerous Zones in the US for the deadly Covide-19 thus the denial for his entry to US
”Yesterday, I left Uganda for the United States of America via Qatar, to attend our Diaspora events including the Uganda Action Day and our Convention, all scheduled this weekend. When I got to Doha in Qatar, it was noted that I was in South Africa less than two weeks back. Apparently, there are still Coronavirus-related restrictions for anyone who has been in South Africa (and a host of other countries) from proceeding to the United States until after fourteen days. Unfortunately, we didn’t detect this earlier. Officials at Entebbe were also unaware of this restriction so they did not advise in it.” Bobi Wine said.
It should be recalled that Bobi Wine has recently been in South Africa where he celebrated his wife’s Birthday, Barbie Itungo Kyagulanyi. Parrots UG learned that South Africa is one of the many red zone countries with travel restrictions to USA.
Bobi wine has since cancelled his onward travel to the USA and return to Uganda this morning noting that he will attend the event virtually.
”This notwithstanding, the planned activities this weekend will proceed. There are several NUP leaders who are already in the US including Hon. Zaake Francis, Hon. Kayemba Solo and Chairman Nyanzi. Other NUP leaders are also on their way to take part in the activities. I will also be part of the event virtually, together with a team of leaders who are not able to travel for one reason or another” he added
