Airtel Uganda, the country’s first 5G network, has demonstrated its commitment to supporting the development of rural communications infrastructure by handing over a significant contribution of Ugx. 34.8 billion to the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC). This payment, which represents 2% of the network’s annual gross revenue, aligns with the requirements set out in the Communications Act and the terms of Airtel’s license.
During a press briefing at the UCC offices, the Executive Director of UCC, Hon. George William Nyombi Thembo, expressed appreciation for Airtel Uganda’s contribution, highlighting the company’s role in advancing communication development in Uganda. He emphasized the importance of bridging the digital divide and promoting inclusive growth through efforts such as the one being made by Airtel.
Managing Director of Airtel Uganda, Manoj Murali, reaffirmed the network’s dedication to providing reliable communication services across the country. He emphasized the company’s commitment to unlocking Uganda’s potential through technology, connecting people and businesses to opportunities. He also acknowledged the UCC’s crucial role in ensuring the sector’s growth and sustainability.
The contribution made by Airtel Uganda will be utilized by the UCC to enhance rural communications infrastructure, particularly in underserved areas. Through collaborative efforts with various stakeholders, Airtel Uganda remains focused on driving digital transformation and empowering communities with access to high-quality communication services. This initiative reflects Airtel’s mission to contribute to Uganda’s development and connect its citizens to a more connected and prosperous future.
