It was an amnesiac today as popular journalist and political critique Andrew Mwenda ‘returned to his vomits’ joining People Power’s National Unity Platform- the people he has for many times criticized as ‘Hooligans.’
Mwenda who earlier today drove to the NUP head offices in Kamwokya Kampala was given a maiden welcome as a full member of NUP Party despite his prior utterances against people power members and leaders.
Upon his registration as the member, Journalist Andrew Mwenda expressed interests in contesting for the Presidency and presidential flagbearer in NUP challenging Hon Robert Kyagulanyi (Bobi Wine).
So now, I formally declare my intention to seek both presidency of NUP and to be the party president in the next election.” Mwenda posted on his social media platform Facebook.
He said his decision to challenge Bobi Wine is to ensure practice of democracy which political parties preach.
“I want to ensure that democracy is practiced in these political parties. No sole Candidate projects,” he said.
Mwenda asked for a man – man discussion with Bobi on the Democratic future of NUP and the road to win incumbent Yoweri Kaguta Museveni in the 2021 elections.
“I am calling for a debate between me and Bobi Wine on the future of NUP and the strategy to defeat Museveni,” he said.
Using Gen MUGISHA Muntu’s illusions on democracy; “You cannot give what you don’t have,” Mwenda urged party members to rally behind the cause as a mean of promoting democratic values within NUP.
He pledged to promote civility strategy, policy awareness, political depths military and security knowledge and build strong regional and global relations which according to him are lacking in opposition political parties in Uganda.
