Liverpool under their new manager have gone 8 points at the top of the premier League table after hammering Southampton by 3-2.
Liverpool opened the scoring through Dominik Szoboszlai in the 19th Minute before Southampton through Adam Armstrong equalized from the rebound of a penalty kick in the 42nd minute to send the game level at halftime.
After Halftime, Southampton capitalized on a counter attack to lead through Mateus Fernandes in the 56th minute before Mohammed salah capitalized on Alex McCarthy’s mistake to equalize and score the penalty in the 83rd minute a goal that ensured Liverpool’s 8point lead at the top of the premier League table.
However,the penalty awarded to Southampton was a subject of discussion as Dibling a Southampton player appeared to have dived into the Box but with the assistance of VAR,the onfield decision was ratified because the VAR believed the replays showed Robertson’s foot was on the line and an update from the Premier League Match Centre said “there was no conclusive evidence that the contact occurred outside the penalty area.”
Liverpool’s thoughts will now be on their next crucial games against Real Madrid and Manchester City both at home and away in the champions League and premier League respectively.
In other News, Leicester City have parted company with their coach Steve Cooper after a disastrous start to the premier League campaign after promotion from championship.
Through a statement on the club website, Leicester confirmed the development”We have parted company with Steve Cooper, who leaves his position as First Team Manager with immediate effect”.read the statement.
Steve Cooper who was appointed on 20 June 2024 leaves after guiding Leicester to only two wins,four draws and six loses in the 16th position.
Alan Tate and Steve Rands have also left the club where as Ben Dawson, Danny Alcock and Andy Hughes will oversee first team training as the club looks to the next substantial first team coach.
