Christians have been urged to support retired officers in the church to enable them live a better life. The revelation was made by Dr. Criscent Tumuhaise, the Executive Director of Nkozi Hospital in Kampala Archdiocese, while attending Christmas mass at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Ishaka Centre, St. Kagwa Parish, in Bushenyi presided over by Rev.Fr.Deusdedit Warugaba, the curate at st Kagwa parish yesterday December 25.
“Church servants like Catechists devote most of their productive time preparing the Christians for various sacraments, and leading church prayers, and most live a miserable life after retirement. It is very important that periodically, these are given packages to enable them live a good and dignified life,” Dr. Criscent urged.
The remarks come at a time when government has given each of the 4 retired speakers of Parliament a brand new Toyota Land Cruiser worth 361 million shillings in addition to facilitating them with drivers, fuel and full routine car maintenance services, a move that has been received with mixed reactions among members of the Public most especially the tax payers.
Dr. Criscent Tumuhaise, who also is the Chairman of the St.Kagwa Parishioners who reside in Kampala Metropolitan made a contribution of one million Uganda shillings towards the completion of the church projects at the same parish. While handing over the cash to the church leaders, he urged the faithful to continue with efforts to renovate the church and make it worth the town church that it is.
“This is a town church, and so, it should look like a town church,” he said.
Furthermore, Tumuhaise said the birth of Jesus should remind all christians to renew their faith in christ.
St. Peter’s Church Ishaka is one of the sub-parishes in St. Kagwa Parish, Bushenyi that is being eyed by many catholic faithful to be elevated into a parish status in a near future.
