Court sitting in Kampala has sent on remand two suspects alleged to be part of the assailants behind the attempted murder of Gen Katumba Wamala at the beginning of this month.
The remanded are Ssembuba Hussein Ismail 38, a boda bpda rider and resident of Nakuwadde Nakabugo Bulenga in Wakiso district and Nyanzi Yusuf Siraji, 46, a herbalist and resident of Kyanja Nakawa Division in Kampala district.
It is understood that on June 1, gunmen attacked and shot at the car inwhich Gen Katumba was travelling killing his own daughter Brenda Nantongo Katumba and a driver; Sgt Haruna Kayondo. Katumba sustained with bullet injuries in both arms while his driver Sgt Khalid Koboyoit survived with no injuries.
Police has since ragged war against the assailants and so far two suspects have been arrested and remanded.
According to police, on June 28, (today) two suspects including Ssembuba and his compliance Nyanzi appeared before the chief magistrate court, Nakawa which charged them with two seperate counts of Murder and two accounts of attempted murder.
“Today, two suspects who are part of tge assailants behind the targeted drive- by shooting that caused the death of Nantongo Brenda and Haruna Kayondo and the attempted murder of Gen Edward Katumba Wamala and hos bodyguard Sgt Khalid Koboyoit appeared before the chief magistrate, Nakawa.” Police says.
Police further noted that the duo have been remanded to Kitalya prison until 3 August,2021.
