The Magistrate court sitting in Jinja City has today ordered Jinja District Police Commander to unconditionally release Hon. Nagayi Nabilah Sempala, the NUP candidate for Kampala  Lord Mayor race and 9 other persons, who are currently held at Nalufenya police post in Jinja.

In the matter of Hon. Nabilah Nagayi Sempala and 9 others as Applicants Vs Attorney General, DPC Jinja police station, O/C CID Nalufenya police post, O/C Nalufenya police post as Respondents ordered

The applicants include; Hon. Nabilah Sempala, Kawooya Yusuf Katuluba, Demands IBRA Waswa, Kakande Mohsin, Lule Reagan Fred, Dr. Muwonge Anthony, Muwaya Ashiraf, Katumba Robert, Maliro Charles and Ouma Emmanuel.

These were represented bytheir lawyers Counsel Turyamusiima Geoffrey and Shamim Malende, the NUP flagbearer for Kampala district WMP.

In a ruling made by Her Worship, Kyomuhangi Happy Anne, court ordered:

“Its hereby orded that the he applicants currently held at Nalufenya police post, be unconditionally released from police custody forthwith or charges before court of law.” ruled Her Worship Kyomuhangi Happy Anne.

The ruling was made in absence of the Respondents (the state) while the applicants.

It Should be recalled that on the night of Thursday last week, police arrested Hon. Nabilah and 9 others at her home  while demanding the release of the NUP presidential candidate, Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert, also the Kyadondo East MP who had been arrested and detained at Nalufenya police post, Jinja.

In the dead of the night, Hon. Nabilah Naggayi Ssempala was violently arrested with several other comrades,” read a post on the lawmaker’s social media platform.

“As we demand for the release of Hon. Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert, we condemn the targeting of our other leaders and demand that they too get their freedom!”

“I am being hounded out,” Nabilah said as police broke into her home

They have since been detained at Nalufenya police post.

According to Shamim Malende, the applicants’ lawyer, the lawyers were proceeding to Nalufenya police post to have their clients released.
