KAMPALA
Ugandan government has announced plans to establish the Food and Agricultural Regulatory Authority (FARA) aiming to promote food safety and quality and standard of agrovet drugs and products.
This was disclosed by the State Minister for Agriculture, Animal Industry, and Fisheries (MAAIF), Fred Bwino Kyakulaga during a media briefing on World Food Day celebration due on October 16.
According to Bwino, the establishment of FARA is part of the government’s efforts to address farmers’ concerns about counterfeit livestock drugs and products that have been affecting the country’s agricultural sector.
Bwino says the ministry is working closely with stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation of the FARA , enhancing the overall agricultural landscape in Uganda
He revealed that the decision to establish the authority was after serious considerations which found out that the available organisations were not handling the issue of fake products on the market well.
On Wednesday, Ugandan will join the rest of the world to celebrate the World Food Day, national celebrations will take place in serere district under the theme, “Rights to Food for better life and Better Future.”
