The hand of death has struck the opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) claiming the life of their Lango stalwart and former legislator for Erute North County, Hon. Charles Angiro Gutmoi Abac Acon.

Angiro died in a tragic road accident when a car in which he was traveling together with other occupants overturned at Ayago along Olwiyo-Karuma-Pakwach-Nebbi road on Saturday morning. Three people died on spot while the injured have been rushed to a nearby health center in Nyowa district for treatment.

The FDC has described Angiro, party member as a distinguished public servant and true patriot whose contributions to the party and democratic struggles in the country shall be greatly remembered.

“Gutomoi was not only a distinguished public servant but also a valued member of the FDC party and the Awitong of Onywal Ipyeda Clan. His unwavering dedication and immense contributions to both the FDC and Uganda as a nation will forever be remembered,” read an eulogy on the FDC Twitter page in parts

The eulogy added, “We join in mourning the loss of a remarkable leader, a true patriot, and a beloved member of our party. We stand united with Hon. Charles Angiro Gutomoi’s family, friends, and the people of Erute during this difficult time.”

Former FDC party member and the deputy speaker of parliament, Rt Hon Thomas Bangirana Tayebwa said the deceased was known for his greater passion on issues of education, health and rural development among others.

“In the August House, Hon. Gutomoi was known for his passion on issues of education, health, and rural development, among others. My condolences go out to the families of the victims of this fatal accident,” Deputy Speaker Tayebwa tweeted

The Leader of Opposition in parliament Rt Hon Mathias Nsamba Mpuuga also hailed the deceased for his hard work for democracy and good governance.

“I worked with him in the 10th Parliament and came to appreciate his hard work and dedication to our struggle for a free and democratic Uganda. Deep commiserations to his family, the people of Erute and the @FDCOfficial1 party to which he belonged. May his soul RIP.” Mpuuga said

Angiro served as the Erute North County member of parliament for three consecutive terms between 2001 and 2021. He lost the 2021/206 election for Erute North County MP seat to Hon. Christine Akello Harriet of NRM.
