An elderly couple in Ibanda District has been attacked and killed by angry mob who burnt down their house.
The deceased are Jerethon Rubiriga aged 95, and his wife Violet Bizire, 87,both residents of Rujumbura cell, Bwahwa in Nyabuhikye sub county Ibanda district.
They were attacked by an angry mob revenging on the deceased grandson Yoweri Kasasira, 19, for allegedly killing James Natukunda, 19 years, a cattle trader in Buhweju District.
It is alleged that Kasasisira connived with his other companion only identified as Katsigazi and killed Natukunda, a Resident of Buhunga village ,Mushasha Parish, Buhunga Sub county’ in Buhweju district.
The duo further took off with his 6million shillings.
Samson Kasasira, the Rwizi region police spokesperson confirmed to the tragic incident.
“It is alleged that Kasasira moved to the home of Natukunda, a resident of Buhunga Village, Mushasha Parish, Buhunga Sub-county in Buhweju District, and tricked him on how he was going to sell him a cow,” Rwizi region police spokesperson Samson Kasasira noted.
He added that; “A nine-year-old boy called Sam Mushabe claimed to have apparently seen the suspect (Yoweri) pulling a dead person and fixing the body in an open stump before he covered it with tree branches. Mushabe led police to the point only to find Natukunda dead in a pool of blood,”
Up on learning on the incident, the angry mob went to Kasasira’s home and only found his grandparents.
They then, transferred the anger to the old parents who were in house and set it ablaze burning them to ashes.
They later turned to the banana plantation and cut it down, killed animals including goats.
Police says, they have started a hunt for Kasasira and his friend Kastigzi and warned all those who were involved in the act of mob justice that they will also be apprehended
