The call follow a Friday (October 4) incident in which Gen. Muhoozi posted on his X handle (formerly Twitter) demanding apology from the US Ambassador to Uganda, William W. Popp for allegedly undermining his father’s (President Museveni) government.

“Fellow Ugandans, it is my solemn duty to announce to you all that we as a nation are about to have a serious confrontation with the current US Ambassador to our country. For disrespecting our beloved and celebrated President and for undermining the constitution of Uganda,” Muhoozi said

“If this current US ambassador does not apologize to mzee (Museveni) personally by Monday morning (9:00am) for his undiplomatic behavior in our country, we will demand he leaves Uganda,” he added.

Ismail Kiirya, UYD President and DP Acting Spokesperson.

The posts raised concerns from a section of citizens over the safety and security of the country, and the state of Uganda’s diplomatic relations with international states.

Ismail Kiirya, President of the Uganda Young Democrats (UYD) and Acting Spokesperson of Democratic Party (DP) says an attack on another country’s envoy is an attack to the country they’re representing. He emphasized the impacts Gen. Muhoozi’s social media utterances may cause on the Uganda’s sociopolitical, economic ties and diplomatic relations with other foreign countries like America.

The UYD President accused President Museveni of remaining silent about his son’s misconduct, while instead rewarding him with military promotions.

“When he threatened Kenya, we thought the president was going to come out to punish him, but instead, what we thought it could act as a punishment, turned out to be another promotion to a rank General and later he was appointed CDF of the UPDF,” Kiirya wondered.

Democratic Party also raised concerns over the government’s silence on such a security – threatening issue and charged the government to clear the country’s image before its relations with other countries deteriorate to the worst.

“We call upon the government of Uganda through the ministry of Foreign affairs to swing into action to put the Uganda ‘s image back to order as far as diplomacy is concerned,” DP Acting spokesperson said.

President Museveni was also charged to suspend the appointment of his son as CDF of the national army and to instill moral values in him, ensuring he becomes a respectful, law-abiding and integrity-driven citizen.

Muhoozi Kainerugaba being decorated a 4 Star General in UPDF on Monday 10th October, 2022.

“We do understand that this is your son but if you don’t do this you are going to make the country pay heavily because of your love you have for your son,” DP demanded.

“…speak to your son not in the capacity of the CDF than putting us in a bad position as the country […] whatever you have fought for may actually dismiss in just minutes because you did not call your son to order. We’re calling for his immediate resignation without fear or favor,” added Kiirya
