New global university rankings have placed Kampala International University (KIU) in the 46th position in Africa rising from the 61st position in August last year.
According to the January 2024, Webometrics Ranking of World Universities, KIU maintained its position as the leading private university and over all the second best University in Uganda after Makerere University.
The rankings are based on excellence, openness and impact. The Webometrics Ranking of World Universities is an initiative of cybermetrics lab, a research group belonging to the Consejo Superior de investigaciones Cientificas (CSIC), the largest public research body in Spain.
Makerere Drops
Makerere University dropped two places in ranking to 19th position in Africa from 17th, as of August 2023.
Despite the drops in continental rankings, Makerere maintained its 1st position as the best University in Uganda.
Following in line is Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) in the 3rd position, Kyambogo University and Gulu University follow in the 4th and 5th positions, respectively.
