As the admission season reaches its peak, Makerere University is experiencing an influx of applicants, leading to increased anxiety and tension among prospective students and their parents. In a message to colleagues, the Academic Registrar acknowledged the challenges and urged staff to remain patient and composed when dealing with anxious applicants.
Professor Buyinza Makadasi the university’s academic registrar noted that some parents and applicants are attempting to negotiate admission terms, even when their qualifications fall short of the required cut-off points. This, the Registrar suggested, reflects a broader societal issue of moral decay and a tendency to seek shortcuts.
Despite these challenges, Makerere University remains committed to maintaining its high standards and integrity in the admission process. The university’s automated admission system ensures transparency, accountability, and fairness, with no room for manipulation or human error.
The Registrar emphasized that the cut-off points for admission are high this year, resulting in many qualified applicants being unable to secure a spot due to capacity limitations set by the Senate and National Council for Higher Education (NCHE).
The university urges parents, guardians, and applicants to understand that admissions are conducted with utmost responsibility and integrity. While many applicants meet the entry requirements, the university can only accommodate a limited number of students.
Prof. Buyinza reassured the public that its qualifications are highly regarded both locally and internationally, with graduates consistently receiving recognition and acclaim. The university will continue to uphold its reputation as a premier institution of higher learning in the region.
