Last season’s runners-up Vipers SC once again needed penalties to progress to the Round of 16 of the Stanbic Bank Uganda Cup.

Just like in the Round of 64 where penalties enabled them to go past Kitara Region side Bujumbura United, the reigning Uganda Premier League champions went through to the Round of 16 thanks to a 7-6 penalty win over Big League side Jinja North United after a goalless draw.

Fellow Premier League aide Soltilo Bright Stars also advanced the hard way at the expense of a ten-man Mbale Heroes.

The encounter at Mbale Stadium ended 1-1 in normal time before the visitors won it 3-4 in the shootout.

Big League side Mbarara City were the only team to win in normal time after they ejected Eastern Region side Tororo Admin 1-0 thanks to Kitegenyi Henry’s 66″penalty.

Vipers, Soltilo Bright Stars and Mbarara City have joined Wakiso Giants and Kitara in the Round of 16.

Action in the Stanbic Bank Uganda Cup continues tomorrow Thursday;

  • Bunyaruguru United vs UPDF
    4pm, Nyakasharu – Rubirizi

  • Kiyinda Boys vs Kigezi HomeBoyz
    4pm, Mityana
