A delegation of Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) National Executive Committee at their National Delegates Conference at Patidar Samaj Sports Grounds Lugogo has voted Mawokota South member of parliament, Hon. Yusuf Nsibambi as the whip to represent FDC in parliament.
According to the results released by the chairing chairperson, also the FDC Vice Chairperson for Central Region, Mukalazi Kibuuka, a total of 965 members voted in favour of Nsibambi while 8 opposed the election. Only 9 delegates abstained from voting.
Nsibambi replaces Kira municipality member of parliament, Hon. Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda as the FDC whip.
In August, FDC dismissed Ssemujju as their whip in parliament but the decision was later turned down by the speaker of parliament on grounds that the appointment of the new whip could cause legal consequences to parliament.
“They further state that the decision you communicated is illegal and ultra vires,” she wrote.
“I note that section 6J (1) of the Administration of Parliament Act and Rule 15 (7) of our rules of procedure require a party in opposition to appoint its whip,” said speaker Among.
On Friday however, the the delegates conference unanimously voted Nsibambi to represent the party to parliament.
Speaking after the voting exercise, John Kikonyogo said the party Secretary General will write to the speaker of Parliament informing her of the party’s decision.
