The Church of Uganda Bishop for North Kigezi Diocesan Rt Rev Benon Magezi is dead.
The blacksmith news of the Bishop’s was first broken by the deceased wife Mama Gladys Magezi in a telephone call to Security Minister also area MP for Rujumbura County Maj Gen Jim Katugugu Muhwezi.
“Dear brothers sad to announce demise of Bishop Benon Magezi of North Kigezi Diocese. The wife Gladys rang me and was calm and strong but pray for her at such a time as this. Psalm 121:1 I look up to the hills where does my help come from. My help comes from the Lord maker of heaven and earth” Muhwezi in a what’s app message.
According to a family source, Bishop has been admitted at Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital for weeks battling the deadly Covid19.
The Church of Uganda Archbishop Most. Rev. Samuel Steven Kazimba Mugalu said the Bishop died after short illnesses. He described him as a person who grew up in a faithful family something that laid a firm foundation for his call to the Ministry.
Archbishop Kazimba said the deceased has by the time of his demise death had launched a fundraising campaign to extend the cathedral and church’s ministry in the diocese.
About Bishop Benon Magezi.
Teacher turned minister, Bishop Magezi grew up in a Christian home and attended church regularly with his family. During a mission at his local church in 1981, he received Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Saviour and was born again. The following year he left reaching and began a full time ministry as a youth worker.
He was consecrated and enthroned Bishop on January 8th, 2017 at STUDENTS. Emmanuel cathedral Kinyasano in Rukungiri district.
According to CoU records, prior to his election as Bishop, Magezi served as the diocesan treasurer to North Kigezi Diocese and many parishes.
He was ordained Deacon in December 1991 and a priest the following year.
He holds Bachelor of Divinity from Bishop Tucker school of Divinity and Theology Uganda Christian University Mukono, 2009.
He also holds a certificate and diploma in Theology from Bishop Barham Theology college obtained in 1990 and 1998 respectively.
Bishop Benon Magezi becomes the first active religious leader to succumb to COVID-19 in the diocese.
He is survived with a wife Mama Gladys and five children.
