A senior Reverend in West Ankole Anglican Diocese has been suspended by christians for alleged embezzlement of Shs8 millions meant for completion of church construction project.
Rev. Delson Bangirana, a reverend at Ryakafuni CoU under Kyamato parish, Nyakashaka Archdeaconry in Buhweju district was suspended at the commencement of Sunday’s service by angry christians who accuse him of embezzlement and misuse of church funds.
It is alleged that the church collected 8 million shillings towards completion of the construction project in 2021, but the Reverend diverted the money into his personal businesses and attempts to have him account for the funds have always fallen in deaf ears.
Christians therefore resorted to sacking him from their church an attempt they succeeded in, yesterday Sunday 20 January, 2024.
Azaria Tugume, a pastor at the church has appealed to the Diocesan administration to intervene into the matter and calm down the situation.
Whereas the accused reverend accepted to leave the service prematurely, he urged christians to obey church and use rightful procedures like courts of law to resolve the matter.
