Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe has been reappointed Vice Chancellor of Makerere University for a second 5-year term.
This follows strong oppositions by the lecturers at the Uganda’s hill of academic excellence demanding for the search of the new vice chancellor after Nawangwe’s 5-years-term expired. The lecturers who earlier on petitioned the university council accused the professor of poor administration and abuse of office.
However, in a reappointment letter by the Universit Secretary, Yusuf Kiranda which Parrots UG seen, the university Chancellor Prof. Ezra Suruma has reappointed Prof. Nawangwe as Vice Chancellor for the next 5 year term.
“Following the provisions of section 31(4) of the University and other Tertiary Institutions Act, 2001 (as amended), and recommendations by the university council, the chancellor has reappointed Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe for a second 5-year term as Vice Chancellor of Makerere University,” read excerpts of the reappointment letter.
The reappointed according to Kiranda takes immediate effect.
The Chancellor noted that the reappointment of Prof. Nawangwe is due to recognition his distinguished service rendered to the institution.
He hailed the university council for granting the professor a second term and assured him of collaborative support as the University celebrates her 100 years.
Shortly after receiving the news of the reappointment, Prof. Nawangwe wrote on his social media pages; “I am extremely humbled by the confidence put in me by the Chancellor and the University Council in re-appointing me as Vice Chancellor of this great institution for another five years. I pledge total commitment to serve @Makerere and Uganda diligently, God being my guide.”
