SPORTS DESK:
It was a night to remember game as Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice against Arsenal- the Gunners at Old Trafford making Manchester United – the kings of the comeback under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
The game has been recovered from Emile Smith Rowe’s bizarre early goal at 13th minutes to secure a perfect win.
Man United goalkeeper David De Gea was down injured on the ground. Arsenal’s goal was initially disallowed, but the VAR reviewed it and saw that it was a teammate who injured De Gea.
At the 44th minute, Bruno Fernandes was terrific, Fred even better, scored an equaliser for Manchester United and in a blink of an eye, the first half of the match ended in a draw.
The second half started in high geers and both teams exchanged goals. Martin Ødegaard at the 54th minute gave a heartbreak to Man United and Cristiano Ronaldo did nothing apart from scoring two goals – the first of which was his 800th for club and country. He netted the goals in the 52 nd and 70th minutes respectively.
Ronaldo’s winning goal came from a penalty kick, which he converted. It was originally not awarded, but the VAR stepped in to flag the infraction by Odegaard, who fouled Fred in the Arsenal box with a late slide tackle.
Referee then awarded the goal after a review giving Man United a perfect win and lifted it to seventh position in the Premier League standings (21 points), just two points behind Arsenal (5th place, 23 points) and three points out of the all-important fourth-place spot that is rewarded with a berth in the Champions League at season’s end.
The teams will meet up for a second round on 23 April, 2022, at the Fly Emirates.
