Traders defy presidential directive on market
Traders in Kampala have refused to spend nights in the markets as per President Museveni directive to combat the spread of corona virus.
On June 18, when the 42 day lockdown induced President Museveni that traders in food marrkets across the country should spend nights in the markets until the end of the lockdown.
Traders in Kabale Central markethave however defied the directive citing out insecurity at the workplace and likelihood to lose their matrimonial marriages. They argued that the market lacks a perimeter wall likely to cause insecurities.
Maria Tereza Komukueya a trader dealing in Irish potato business said government has not provided traders with treated mosquito nets adding that they risk getting infected with malaria due to heavy downpours in the area.
A market administrator who preferred anonymity told Parrots UG that part of the market roof is leaking and top officials have not done anything to repair the dilapidated rooftop.
