KASESE:
The Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) has temporarily closed ferry operations at Katunguru after it experienced mechanical problems.
“UNRA informs the general public and the users of the temporary ferry at Katunguru (Kazinga Channel) along the Hima-Kampala-Ishaka road that the ferry has experienced a technical glitch and therefore its operations will be closed from 26 August to 27 August,2021 to undertake interventions/repairs required to enhance the safety of the ferry,” UNRA said in a public notice.
It should be recalled that in June, UNRA suspended traffic at Kazinga channel bridge Katunguru Katwe-Kabatoro for rehabilitations.
The authority provided a ferry to aid in transportation and connections of people and their goods from Hima-Kampala-Ishaka road and alternative routes for vehicle users.
On June 25, Parrots UG published an article on the closure of the bridge with a list of the alternative routes which UNRA had issued to road users.
In a public notice on the temporary closure of the ferry operations, UNRA has mantained the use of these alternative routes. Click here to read the Alternative Routes to use.
UNRA says there is progress on the rehabilitation works at Kazinga channel bridge disclosing the bridge is expected to be complete by September 30 whereafter it will be handed over to the public for use.
