According to reports, the incident occurred on November 1, 2023, at approximately 18:00hrs. Charity and her brother, Isma Turyasingura, had gone to fetch water from a well located about 200 meters from their home. On their way, they encountered an unknown man, whom they passed by and continued to the well.
While the siblings were at the well, the unidentified man suddenly appeared and abducted Charity. In a panic, Isma rushed back home and alerted their mother about the incident. The mother, along with other women from the community, immediately began searching for the girl but unfortunately their efforts led them to a nearby bush, where they discovered the lifeless body of the young girl submerged in the well water.
The area chairperson, George Bampabwire, promptly informed the Rukungiri police about the incident where the murder case was registered at and officers visited the crime scene. The body of the deceased was retrieved and transported to Rwakabengo Health Center III mortuary for postmortem examination.
Authorities are currently conducting inquiries to establish the identity of the suspect and the motive behind this heinous act. The police have urged anyone with information related to the case to come forward and assist with the investigation.
ASP Maate Elly, the PRO for Kigezi region, expressed his condolences to the family and assured the public that the police are committed to bringing the perpetrator to justice. He emphasized the importance of community cooperation in solving such crimes and urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
The tragic murder of Charity Nazifa has sent shock through the community, prompting concerns about the safety of children and the need for increased security measures. Local leaders and organizations have called for immediate action to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
