KAYUNGA: Former Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Kayunga District chairperson Harriet Nakwedde Kafeero has been endorsed by opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) as its flag bearer for the heated Local Council Five (LC5) by-elections in Kayunga District.
The Kayunga District LC5 chairperson office fell vacant after the unfortunate death of Ffeffeka Sserubogo whose body was found hanging lifeless on a tree in June 2021.
NUP’s Electoral Management Committee Chairperson, Mercy Walukamba revealed that a number of candidates expressed interest to contest on the NUP ticket in the by-election and Nakwedde was endorsed as the suitable candidate to carry the party flag in the race.
“The committee conducted vetting and consulted the people of Kayunga through field visits and surveys. I accordingly announce that after the elaborate process. Hon. Nakwedde Harriet has emerged the winner, and she will carry the NUP flag in the upcoming elections,” Walukamba revealed during a press brief.
Nakwedde was the FDC Kayunga District chairperson before she decided to cross over to NUP during the 2021 general elections.
Nakwedde joins NRM leaning Andrew Muwonge and DP’s Anthony Waddimba who have both been endorsed by their respective parties as Ronald Ssozi and Abdul Muliika wait for the final decision from their party FDC.
The Electoral Commission set November 29 and 30 as nomination days and December 16, as the polling day for the Kayunga LC5 chairperson by-election.
