The Ugandan football community is in mourning following the devastating news of the passing of Darius Mugoye, the 2nd Vice President of the Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA). Mugoye tragically passed away on Tuesday morning at Mengo Hospital, as confirmed by FUFA.
Mugoye was widely recognized for his unwavering dedication and invaluable contributions to FUFA and the broader football landscape. He had previously served under the leadership of Dr. Lawrence Mulindwa, leaving a lasting impact on the sport.
FUFA has announced that further details regarding Mugoye’s funeral arrangements will be provided in due course, allowing the football community to pay their respects and bid farewell to a remarkable individual.
One of Mugoye’s notable achievements this year was his instrumental role in securing the hosting bid for AFCON 2027 for East Africa. He had been selected by the Federation to oversee the Pamoja bid as part of an eight-man committee.
In addition to his role in FUFA, Mugoye also served as the proprietor of St. Mary’s New Hope FC, a lower division team affiliated with St. Mary’s SS in Nabweru, where he held the position of Director.
The sudden and untimely passing of Darius Mugoye is a significant loss not only for the FUFA community but also for the wider football community in Uganda. His unwavering commitment and passion for the development of football in the country will be remembered and cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
