The mothers Union and Christian Women of Kampala Anglican Diocese have on Saturday elected Carolyn Bessie Kikoyo as their new president.

The voting exercise took place during the Annual General Meeting held at All Saints Cathedral, Kampala new sanctuary.

Presiding over the devotion, Rev. Paulson Tumutegyerize, the diocesan education cordinator implored women to trust God and become women of identity in Christ.

“Dear Women, you ought to have the inner beauty which is your identity. This inner beauty can breakthroughs in life. But, remember your inner beauty can be misused by the enemy. The enenmy does not likeyour inward beauty, when a woman falls the man falls too. Guard your inward beauty,” Rev. Tumutegyerize said.

Before the election exercise, Tumutegyerize asked women to choose leaders whose hearts are won for Christ.
Bessie was then elected the president but the meeting did not vote for the Vice President.

This is becuase according to the mothers union constitution, the 1st and 2nd runners-up, stand again and elect the vice president.

This however failed after the 1st runner-up Mary Barahukwa who has been serving as the Vice President in the previous regime declined to stand again. The 2nd runner-up, Sharon Twebaze was the option left for the women to elect but she did not make half of the total votes.

The returning officer Rev. Canon John Awodi, who also doubles as the Diocesan Secretary for Kampala Dioce declared Bessie, the Mothers Union President elect and deferred the matter of the Vice President to the Bishop who will guide on the next step.

Among other members elected are Rufina Barigo Oloa (Secretary General), Vidah Ekyoshabire Tinzaara (Treasurer) and Tamar Kharono Ssembiro (Publicity Secretary).

Rev. Canon Awodi hailed members for turning up in large numbers to vote their leaders and asked the elected persons to serve God’s flocks with diligence.
Speaking after being elected, Bessie Kikoyo thanked members for trusting her with this mantle of leadership pledging to serve with honesty, humility and intergrity.

“I am humbled and I will serve the Lord with humility, a listening ear and always take instructions. I am here and I am ready to serve,” said Carolyn Bessie Kikiyo.
