“We remember Jacob Oulanya as a competent lawyer, social worker who exhibited benevolent leadership and was always on the side of the law”, said FDC

The remarks were made by the party president, Eng Patrick Oboi Amuriat while addressing members of the press at the party headquarters in Najjanankumbi Kampala on Monday.
Amuriat who could not hold back tears recalled his precious time shared with speaker Oulanya during their time at Makerere University in the late 1980’s noting that he enjoyed the deceased leadership.
“I enjoyed good partnership and relations with the late Hon. Oulanya from the time he came to Makerere in 1988, and we began to do our politics during the same time”, Amuriat mourns recalling the time Oulanya led Makerere students to the Freedom Square protesting against bad leadership.

He added; ‘we continued to associate with him this made him fall into troubles with the very government he later served as speaker.”
“In December 1990, when he was our speaker our speaker, he led us to Freedom Square were not good to him. He goes to to his grave with torture marks metted on him by the very cruel dictatorship that he later served.” Amuriat added.
According to Amuriat, Oulanya given his past good track of records as the Gud Speaker at Makerere under the leadership of Nobert Mao had the responsibility to lead Ugandans in the struggle just as the guild.
Nonetheless, Amuriat has resisted an attack made on Oulanya by a section of social media users accusing him of not causing better health service in the country.
According to him, Oulanya did not do enough to cause better health services to happen in this country because of a multi-player political characteristics of President Museveni.
“I have read on social media people saying Oulanya did not do enough to cause better health services happen in this country. It doesn’t matter what rank you hold in this country, so long as the person on top doesn’t wish anything to happen, it won’t happen. This is what Oulanya and us in the opposition face under the current leadership of Museveni”, he defended.
Notwithstanding, FDC says that it was not good for Speaker Oulanya to die while seeking for medical treatment from abroad.
“It regrettable that Oulanya like a number of prominent Ugandans had to die seeking treatment abroad which continue to expose the poor health-care facilities in this country and necessitate constant call on the NRM government to put more resources to the improved health facilities in the country.” FDC makes a clarion call to gov’t.
FDC has hailed Oulanya for the works rendered to the parliament of Uganda, Omoro county and suspended their 8-days activities that were supposed to be conducted in the Northernregion.
“We therefore, wish to announce the postponement of our 8-days political program to Northern Uganda planned to commence on Thursday 24th March, 2O22. Tje Northern program will resume after the burial.” FDC said
