Due to the spread of the pandemic novel Corona virus  that led to global health crisis, all the sporting activities were suspended in abid to fight against the virus, for that fact,the Uganda premier league club’s are facing challenges in meeting their operational requirements.

In a letter  dated 7th May 2020,that the  this online news nest came across, UPL was writing to FUFA the domestic football governing body requesting for three months budgetary back up.

“This is therefore to request for three months budgetary support for the 16clubs to enable them prepare and present teams that will play for the last five matches and other contractual obligations”.

Clubs are facing challenges in meeting their operational requirements especially salaries since March 2020, we expect this slump to go on up to a period not less than six months before the situation begins to connect during this period, clubs will be expected to meet contractual obligations during and after the season.”

“In this light, clubs are finding,it very difficult to meet expenses that will pave way for the completion of the league season 2019/2020 among other activities, without a clear and insight of this pandemic and when the industry will be allowed to fully operate again,the industry needs to find away to face the long layoff and it’s effects squarely,” read part of the letter.

Each club is requesting for funding of sh.60,000,000 for the period of three months which is equivalent to Sh.960,000,000.

The Ugandan premier league is targeting to take care of rent, communications inform of internet, staff salaries, general office expenses, fuel, stationary and cleaners.

The StarTimes Uganda premier league was expected to resume in early May but due to Corona virus, the league was extended until further notice as directed by the President and Ministry of Health.

Vipers FC are in a comfortable seat with 54points four points behind reigning champions KCCA FC after playing 75%of the league where by only five fixtures are left to finish the season.
