A section of Democratic Party(DP) have come out to denounce the NRM deal that was signed between president Museveni and chairman Mao on Wednesday 20th July 2022.

While addressing the journalists on Thurday evening at the parliament, Democratic Party legislators led by Hon Lulume Bayiiga, member of parliament from Buikwe South constituency confirmed to Ugandans that the signed deal does not involve Democratic Party(DP) as a party but it was signed at an individual basis.

“There were no any organ of the party that sat to discuss about the corporation agreement that was signed yesterday by Mao and President Museveni. Therefore, Mao signed it on his own behalf,” Lulume denounced.

Hon. Lulume furthermore revealed to the journalists that he had a chance to talk to Chairman Mao after getting the information and he confirmed to him that it’s true he had signed the agreement with president Museveni.

“Mao confirmed to me that he signed the agreement with the president and that they have been communicating for a long period of time. He also told me that president Museveni is the one who drafted that agreement and promised him he was going to appoint him as minister of justice and constitution affairs,” Lulume added.

However, Dr Lulume and other Democratic Party legislators appealed to chairman Mao to give in his resignation letter peacefully to allow the party elect new leadership without wasting time going to courts.

“We are not here to fire back to Chairman Mao or even abuse him upon the decision he made as he has been doing to other people who disagree with him because he may have been working for this appointment. But, we are requesting him to give (DP) a gift by tendering in his resignation letter in peace,” MPs demanded

The reason as to why I am saying this, Lulume noted it’s because according to the conversation I had with Mao, he wants to act as a minister in NRM government at the same time as a president of Democratic Party which we can’t allow.

“Mao thinks he can be a Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs and the DP chairman at the same time? We will have a new president, we shall call upon our colleagues to rejoin us, we shall mobilize and DP will be strong again. We have gone through stronger waves and we survived,” Lulume emphasised

Hon Lulume also assured Chairman Mao that DP legislators are civilized ,respect his decision and also wish him the best where he has gone.

“We are civilized, we respect people’s decision. Mao, DP elders have loved you and had hope in you even if you had weakness in one way or the other and we request you to do Democratic Party a favor and resign peace,” he added.

Hon ssewamala has assured president Museveni that he can not destroy Democratic Party because it is a strongest and oldest party in Uganda.

The DP legislators have further promised to Ugandans that after Chairman Mao, Gerald silanda, Dr Mayambala and other people that were involved in the signing of the agreement resign, they are going to rebuild the party and bring back all the people who left the party because of Mao one way of overthrowing president Museveni government.
