With excitement, charisma and optimism, the long awaited Nyakasura school Alumni league finally kicked off on Sunday 5th February 2023 and seven matches were played at the Kabalagala based Henry’s sports center.

Though only nine teams turned up for match day one,the spectacle characterised by a respectable turn up and some incredible displays from individuals and teams has been described by participants as very promising.

“Every thing was quite entertaining, very interesting and I can really say that it was a fantastic beginning,” said Engogo fc’s Isaac Kasoro whose team won all their two matches on Sunday.

“Byaro fc’s Joan Kabayaga said,”It was full of fun, we got to meet former colleagues after some long time. This was an amazing experience beyond what was displayed on the pitch.”

Nyanda FC poised to defy the odds

Former Nyakasura school head prefect Geoffrey Maate said that the league has started meeting it’s main obligation of bridging the gap between the young Alumni of the school.

“Besides, the good game display and the excitement,I am happy to note that our league has begun meeting it’s biggest goal of uniting the young Alumni of Nyakasura school. People have been able to meet old friends and former school mates they never saw and this is really encouraging for us,” Maate noted.

Initially everything rotated about the older Alumni, people who studied at the school some time in the 90’s or before but one,the young boys and girls are able to meet and share the good memories at the school,” he added.

The unwavering desire for each team to win made day one quite competitive producing some nerve fledgling encounters that predict that this league is surely going to be one to watch now that it is even in the Capital city.

There were some spine tingling moments between the league’s heavy weights,SC Rugumayo and Blast Furnace which produced the league’s first red card. Former Tooro United striker Deus Katuramu was impressive as he inspired team Blast Furnace to a hard fought 2-0 victory against the Professors.

On the other hand, Banyunye recovered from a 2-0 loss to SC Rugumayo in their opening match to stun Amairindi in a closely contested encounter that ended 2-0 before sparking some incredible scenes of jubilation from boys and girls in black and white.

Paul Mujwara, the chairperson Banyunye said that his team is happy with one win from the opening two matches though their anticipation was something better.

“Generally it’s been an interesting opening day though as team Banyunye,we did not meet our expectations. Our goal was to win every match but still we are happy with our performance on day one,” he said.
