Church of Uganda Archbishop Stephen Kazimba Mugalu has appointed the Bishop Emeritus of Mukono diocese, Bishop James William Ssebagala the caretaker of Luweero diocese.
According to the statement on the CoU Facebook page, the appointment takes effect from 18th July 2023 to 18th March 2024.
“Bishop Ssebaggala will give pastoral oversight over the Diocese on behalf of the Archbishop, oversee administration of the Diocese, confirm candidates as delegated and baptize adults and infants,” the statement read in parts.
It should be recalled that the house of Bishops in June revoked the consecration of Rev. Cannon Godfrey Kasana over alleged adultery. Elected on 3rd April as the 4th Bishop of Luweero diocese, Rev Cannon Kasana was supposed to be installed on July 9 however, this did not happen after reports of infidelity were raised against him.
On Sunday, July 9, Archbishop Kaziimba assumed the pastoral responsibility of the Diocese of Luweero after the abdication ceremony by the retiring bishop Eridard Nsubuga.
Bishop Ssebagala responsibilities
During his pastoral service, the retired Bishop will also ordain Deacons or priests and install Canons as delegated, prepare the Diocese in the process of reconciliation and healing until a new Bishop is consecrated and enthroned by the House of Bishops and other ministerial obligations as assigned from time to time.
