Police in Mubende have in custody four suspects on allegations of child abduction of a 3-months-old baby boy.
The suspects whose identities remain concealed were arrested following an investigation and the recovery of the abducted baby near a local shrine.
“We have apprehended four suspects to assist in the case, and our efforts to identify and apprehend any additional suspects continue,” police said
SP Racheal Kawala, the Wamala region police spokesperson did not disclose the victim but said its the son of Magezi Aaron and Nakityo Rose, residents of Kikona Cell, Kirungi Ward, South Division in Mubende Municipality, Mubende District.
It is alleged that on Sunday 23rd July 2023, at around 1030hrs the left her child alone in the house to fetch water from the stream and when she returned, she realized that the child was missing. She immediately contacted her husband who had gone to work and a search for the child started in vain. Police was notified and the search continued in all surrounding houses but there was no sign of the baby.
SP Kawala confirmed to the recovery of the victim near a shrine following valuable information obtained from children playing nearby which led police to a person seen carrying a child while wearing a cap.
“Our officers traced the same route and discovered the abandoned child in the bushes near Nakatogo Vadesi’s shrine, approximately 200 meters away. Thankfully, the child was found alive.” she said.
Furthermore, SP Kawala condemned acts of child kidnapping and urged parents and guardians to be vigilant, refraining from leaving their children unattended for the safety and protection of their children.
A case of child kidnapping has been opened and inquiries are still underway to ensure justice is served.
